Shouldn't get more than 14V off the alt to the battery. Have you checked water in the battery? If its new it's under warranty go get another. My brand new truck had a bad battery. Take the multimeter and put pos on output on alt and neg just to any ground and see what you read.

Look in the 880 service manual and see what the voltage's
should be,,,, it will be the same for your car,,,,, the difference between the
points and the electronic will be accuracy as well as you have probably noticed
that when your driving your car at nite you notice the lights changing
briteness,,,, and yes I would be glad to take the 880 service manual off your
hands, send me your address and I will send some cash to cover
