that would be correct, the timing marks on the cover show
approximate TDC of the #1 piston, but the position of the cam decides if it is
compression or exhaust stroke, the timing mark lines up twice for ever power
stroke, another way to look at it would be,,,,,,, an engine running at 6000 rpm
only fires any given cylinder 3000 times per minute,,,,,, this also comes into
the equation when figuring what size carb you need, which would be cubic
inches of engine times desired rpm, which must be divided by 2 because of
compression/exhaust stroke
