RE: zddp

I'm going to go out on a limb here and agree as well. I've owned a ton of old cars, and put a ton of miles on them. My Dart sees only about 375 miles or so per week now, but double that earlier. My '57 Mayfair I put insane miles on (poly there, too). I think it was about 600 miles/week over 3 years. No engine issues there. I had a '66 Volvo with solid lifters with 375,000 documented miles on it and no issues. 275,000 of those miles i put on myself, most using Duckham's semi-synthetic. I could go on and on, as I drive my cars. Lots. For example, the last car I "retired" had averaged just over 62,000 miles for each year. That's on top of driving my "special interest" cars as well.

That being said, I'm keeping careful track of all the information in this thread and others like it, and will be applying some of that to whatever new engine goes into the Dart. But the reality is that any oil on the market today is probably better than what was available when my Dart was new. Yes, additives have changed. So while I will be considering that, I'm thinking that the better oil probably does a fair job of compensating in many cases.

The worst fresh oil on the market probably beats the best dirty oil in the crankcase.....  :P

BTW, I am a fan of synthetic. But only if oil changes are done at the same intervals are you would normally do.

think about this Jacob, your car has 100,000+ miles on it, probably had all kinds of oil put in it, just go buy some cheap 20/50 and put in in it. Your not going to hurt that 383. Stop worrying about all the additives. jm2cw
