I know what you mean about the memory thing. I have the same problem; I think its called getting older? I havent had any experience with the 66 dash colors so I dont know about those. Your dash sounds like it will look great when its back together. Did you have any problems getting the old heater ducts back in or were you able to get new ones? They tear so easily after 45+ years. My Dad had a 66 Ply with a maroon dash. It had a definit texture to it, kinda like very fine wrinkle finish. I probably thought our 64's had this same texture, but maybe they were mostly just flat suede look. Yes, I too was surprised how easy my dash went back in. With the windshield out of the way- that makes a big difference. It sure does look nice- cant wait till I can put my new spray chrome plastic parts back in. Speedo and guages have all been cleaned and clear polished lenses with newly painted needles. But that will have to wait till I get some other interior parts done..................MO On Sep 4, 9:15 pm, William Spore <w.sp...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Hi MO, The upper part doesnt feel like it has quite as much texture to it as the original did although it still has a slightly rough feel to it. The painter my brother ended up with said he had painted a lot of older cars but apparently he had never painted the Derby before cause he called my brother and said there must be something wrong with this paint, it looks like crap and flat.My brother told him that is the way its supposed to look so apparently he had never used suede before. Anyway, we just got it in the car today and it looks pretty good. I was surprised it went in pretty good with no problems. Told my brother we must have done something wrong, that was too easy. lol. Taking into account some fading on the original paint it is probably dead on the same color. The top part that is painted with the texture looks very close if not dead on also. Its close enough that I dont believe anyone could tell the difference. My paint guy kinda dropped the ball so we ended up going to a paint shop that still had the old color books. The colors, Majestic red or Ruby red 71203, which is the gloss color on the bottom half of the dash, was listed along with the suede Derby red 71390 which goes on the top half and is a flat color with a texture feel to it. They mixed both paints in about 30 min. The Derby red looks like a gloss but the guy said that when it is sprayed and dries it comes out a flat color. They add the additives that make it come out the flat color with the texture to it. Its mixed according to the formula for that color. Its not cheap, the Derby red was $120.00 for a quart. Of course red is the most expensive color to buy. We'll see how it comes out when its sprayed on and dries. Now if I can just get my paint guy on the ball........... I was going to check with the vendor listed on this site but I had read where people were having problems getting the paint from them so we bought from a local paint supply house. Thanks to everyone who gave me info on this. I'll post the results when it is painted. Now for a question; Anyone know where to get sheetmetal patch panels for the rear quarters, inner fender, and the wheel lip, etc. for the 64? I would prefer a one piece from the door jam to the rear but I dont know what is available. Anyone?
