One thing is clear about the future: it will surprise us! A dictionary defines an environmentalist as "one concerned about environmental quality especially of the human environment with respect to the control of pollution." Dismissing the extremes at both ends of the curve, most people today are far more environmentalist than they recognize. Many things we used to do with car stuff we would not do today, for example, we now bring the oil oil from an oil change we do to the local parts store for recycling instead of pouring it in the back yard where it would seep down and foul the ground water. For years there has been a link on the '62 - '65 "welcome" page under Fight for your Hobby! called "SEMA: Learn about threats to our Hobby..." I agree that only by actively promoting the old car hobby will we be able to win support and "political capital" to allow use of these vehicles. On an upbeat note, the old car hobby folks, as I read the current tea leaves, are much more influential because they are so active. On a more optimistic future scenario, there are a slew of new manufacturing technologies coming into play that will allow people to, in effect, manufacture parts in their garage. Need a trim piece? Get the specs in a cad drawing, put it in the computer, press "manufacture" and out comes the part. Also, much research and activity on alternative fuels, such that, like craft beer brewers, folks could "home brew" fuel for their gas powered vehicle, like some people do now for diesel powered vehicles. By the way, here is the SEMA link from the '62 - '65 page: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?ID=/content/SEMASANcom/HomePage Thanks, Gary H. > -------Original Message------- > From: Dodger > > It is always a cool/nice/great thought when we hear how someone plans > of building/restoring or passing on their 63 Fury, or whatever car > with/to their kids/grandkids.
