Sent: Friday, August 12, 2011 2:02 AM Subject: 440 heads Can someone give ne the formula to figgering compression ratio when the head cc is known, the gasket thickness is known , and the top of the piston to deck height is known. That would be a flatop piston with no reliefs. A while back I was askimg what I could do to raise the compression from about 8.2 without changing pistons. One person recommended a 60 thou. mill of the head, but I don't want to mill my new intake manifold to match. Someone mentioed changing to closed chamber heads which I did not want to search for and pay what they are worth. The fog in my brain parted and a pair of 383 heads became visible in my parts stash.! Those are 516 heads and ports look very close to my late 440 heads. The intake valve is the same size, but the exhaust is smaller. If I put the larger hardened exhaust valve seats and valves in, wouldn't this be a good thing?..........................MO -- --Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
