The fuel gauge going to full indicates the sending unit is malfunctioning. A bad gauge or wiring issue is probable if the gauge does not go to full. This test is done with the ignition switch on.
The faulty "full" reading could possibly mean the gas float has a pin hole leak and has some gasoline in it, making it too heavy to rise to the top of the tank when filled.
Thanks, Gary H.
-------Original Message------- When we say to ground the fuel gauge, exactly what should I do? Ground the wireto the body and/or do an ohm check on the gauge itself? My '65 Belvedere reads 5/8 tank when full and E when empty. Akron Don Gallimore
