Agree with Bill. I have welded Cast Iron in the past as well with some
success. The problem is trying to determine what sort of Cast Iron it is as
there are a few varieties. I found the secret was to preheat the item to be
welded, but I had the most success by brazing the items back together. The
braze seemed a wee bit more forgiving.
Cheers,
Tony

The por 15 stuff will work on something not under stress but using it to
repair a busted off starter mount won't work. Beveling the edges and jigging
the pieces tight and heating to cherry red then welding with carbon nickel
rod then cooling down gradually usually works but with cast iron you won't
know until you bolt the starter back in and then put it under stress.
I welded for 30 years....99% of the time on mild or stainless steel........
But I did weld cast a couple of times with some success. What I welded
wasn't under stress; just pressure. Didn't leak though.
