Re: Mopar 383 engine tech

If the oil going thru the filter comes directly from the oil pump , Might there be a fitting there to hook up a oil guage? If using a primer rod, could I poke a smal hole in the filter and if the pump is working, a pressureized oil stream wpould come out? ..........................MO

We have had this happen several times and each time a lifter has jumped out of a bore! Sometimes a pushrod is through a rocker if they are not "+" rockers. Sometimes a bent push rod. But always a sudden thing once while driving down the road. We have never had a pump fail suddenly.

had a similiar thing happen to me and the felt that goes on the crank at the timing chain dissintegrated and found its way to the oil pump pickup!engine was running fine one minute and then started ticking and oil pressure dropped to zero i pulled the oil pan and found the felt was packed in the screen at the pick up thank god i was at home in the garage when this happened or it would have definately been a bad deal which i still had alot of time invested and such but luckily caught it right away and no damage done

Try a new pump or drop pan to see if
pick up is "sludged" etc. up. Had the same thing happen to me new pump
fixed it. Oil goes from pump to passenger side lifter galley. Oil
feeds mains from pass. lifter galley then up to cam. Oil goes from
pass. galley across rear of block to drivers side lifters.
