Hi Steve,Exhaust pipe size is governed by engine size and volumetric efficiency and RPM range. Of course the factory compromises on lots of factors but Chrysler was better than the rest. Usual practice is to up-size from OEM . The amount depends on your modifications. Tailpipes are smaller because the exhaust gases cool and reduce in volume in the muffler and require a smaller pipe to maintain the same velocity through the system.

I am going to use 2 1/2" exhaust pipe, mufflers and tailpipe with stock magnum nanifolds that have 2" outlet. Word I heard was that exhaust pipe larger than manifold outlet will hurt lower Rpm performance up to about 3500RPM. I would like to hear your opinions on that. Also I have wondered why stock exhaust pipe is larger than the tailpipe diameter?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,MO{Steve Mick} http://stevemick1964dodge.shutterfly.com/pictures/5 ----Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
