The main reason to remove the glass is to check for rust - rot out under the bottom, especially near the edges. There are about 10 glass vendors listed on the 62-65 Vendor's Page you can check with. A good glass tech (one who has patience!) should be able to remove the glass without issue. It's pretty easy to get out if you don't care to reuse the gasket, as you cut the old gasket off. Just never touch the glass itself with a metal knife or screwdriver! I think repro gaskets are available. Check the vendors like Kramer and Suchy. You'll probably need new trim clips too. Line up all the parts before the glass is messed with.
