Re: Speedo Cable Leak (Housing)

After I got the cable out, I found there is an inner pinion seal that is supposed to keep oil from even getting into the housing. Now to pull the seal it and see if I can find a replacement.

Also found a '64 valiant that I pulled the speedo cable from. Was hoping it would have a Blue or Purple gear for the gearing change I am doing, but it was the orange one, just like I have. Need the 19 tooth one with the gear change. (Lowering from 2.93's to 3.23's). Will trade someone for an orange one for a blue one, if willing.

I had a leaking sppedo cable (auto trans.)where it had been too close to
the exhaust and melted the plastic coating around it. I took it off
degreased the heck out of it and coated it with the plastic stuff you
use to dip tool handles into to coat them. Still holding.

I could use Map/Aceteline and try brazing silver solder in it, or just a

60/40 tin/lead with a propane torch. Because not being done for
strength, will try the solder tonight.

I guess if the lead wont stick, I'll try the hotter braze.

Speedo Cable Leak (Housing)
I've been having this phantom leak on my 4 speed since I got the car
going again.

The other day I Found out it is the speedometer cable. Its leaking from
around the inside of the crimp on the cable side.

Can I solder this crimp to seal it? Anyone ever done this? Or do I have
to replace the full speedometer cable housing?
