Re: Dash colors

Oh BTW , The company I found that advertises the exact factory paint is "Auto Color Restoration Shop" According to them their Derby Red is RSP AU-D Priced at that time as no amount less than a quart for $57.95 I don't have their phone number...........................MO

OK Bill, this is what I have and you can use it for comparison Bill Watson called that top of dash color Derby Red flat # 71300. And for what its worth, the number I found was #71390.

I have a old Dupont color chip chart, and so went with the local Dupont-Nason dealer He had to take my info and call into DuPont. He came up with a formula to mix, but it gets a little confusing. On one lable from the dealer it says Car : Spectramaster Code:RS561 Color: Spectramaster Red and then gives the paint formula. Now , the can itself has a paint formula that is a differnt formula. In thinking about it, the paint I recieved is a flat finish but is smooth to the touch. It is dead on to the color chip. Since the word Spectra master is used, my bet is the chip was scanned for color, but if it has a texture ( the color chip chart shows no texture) It probably wouldn't show in the scan. The formulas I have are to lengthy to post here, but I could e-mail that info to you.

I don't know if the texture( if any) is an additive to the paint or merely the way it is applied- kinda like dry or orange-peel. Please let me know your findings as I may want to repaint mine..........................MO

Thanks Steve, yes if you dont mind to dig up the new paint info, Id appreciate it. I'll take all the info I can get. I'm going to give the numbers that Bill gave me to my paint guy and see if he can cross the numbers but I'll take your new paint info too. That way surely we can come up with something. The paint on top of the dash does have a rough feel to it and not smooth like the bright red on the bottom of the dash. My brother is trying to keep everything as close to factory as possible within reason. He wouldnt even let me talk him into changing out the left hand thread lug studs! Thanks again, Bill

Bill, Bill Watson gave you good information, but I think I
can add to it. I
think he gave yo the factory paint codes. I have a 64
Dodge with the same
colors on the dash. The suede color on the top of the dash
is the stickler.
There is a company that claims exact formulas in their paint,
but it is VERY
expensive. I have a Dupont color chip chart and got the old
paint number for
the suede The problem then was crossing that to new
formulation numbers. I
have painted mine, It looks really nice but I have no way
of telling if it
is in fsct the correct new factory color. It is a flat
finish , but
somewhat smooth. I thought the original finish had some
texture that you
could actually feel. If you are interested, I can
dig through my stuff and
give you the new paint info......................MO
