Re: vin numbers

Chrysler had a small tag screwed to either the driver's side inner
fender or on the firewall.  Depending on year, the first three rows
were numbers (1 to 0), lower case letters (a to z) and then upper case
letters (A to Z).   Some of the numbers / letters had numbers below
them.  The groups with upper and lower letters/numbers were for the
various options on the car.

The bottom two rows had the upper row with things like SON, MODEL,
BODY, TRIM, PAINT.  The lower row had the details for the row above.

The "SON" stood for Shipping Order Number.  Prior to 1969 this number
was stamped on various parts of the car.  On A bodies it was stamped
on the radiator cross member (at the factory covered by the antifreeze
warning tag) and on the large pre-C bodies on the firewall around the
heater (the firewall as the front clip was removable.)

If you find such a tag, and the VIN, post it and the group will help
decode it all.
