Re: Fury update

Steve,

I may have a short or long '65 cable if you do keep the car.

Happy motoring.

Hay Dave B, Thanks for sending me some of your snow, but I really didn't want the wind! What do I expect for free??

The Dodge did not have an engine or tranny , but it had been a colume shift 3 speed. I would guess a 318 engine as I did not have to change the K frame to put in a big block. The Sport Fury has a later 60's 383 engine and tranny. With the car, I got a dis-assembled 383 that I was told had a correct casting number block Also two other 727 tranny and another for parts. That is why my poor little Chebby 1/2 ton 305 C.I. pickup is squatting so much in the pics! I also got the stock console and bucket seats. If I keep the car, I will need a cable shift 727. ................MO

Steve, congratulations on your accruement! Must be nice to have both the Dodge and Plymouth in 1964 vintage. And both as two door hard tops! Are they both 383 motors?
Have fun and good luck with them!

Tonight we got some pics up on shutterfly--joining the Dudge Click on the link below my name below. It needs to be re-arranged as it starts off with
the Dodge 1st pic.

I made room in the shop and got the Fury inside last week. Problem: It would
not start but would fire when you let off the key, and sometimes when it
fired it would start up. And then it ran fine. I don't care for the
electronic Mopar ignition( to many things that can go wrong. So I eliminated the orange box and put in a single points rebuilt distributo and got rid of
a bunch of wires.Left the new looking MSD coil. Still wouldn't start.
Checked the ballast resistor and it had bright test light on both ends
WTF???? Then I learned that a ballast resistor doesn't drop voltage until
it warms up. Wouldn't start. Then I found out that the hot wire to the
ballast was not hot when the engine was cranking. AH- HAA! Ran a jumper from the battery to the input side of the ballast, and BANG--it started right up. Ran pretty rough, but after a while the engine quit and would not fire.?? I had another good coil that did not need a ballast resistor and ran a jumper wire from the battery to the input sideof the coil.. That fixed the quitting problem, but it still ran rough. Checked over the REBUILT distributor and
found that the points were barely opening. Set the gap at .16 and now it
starts up right away and runs smooth Well smooth as the lumpy cam will let
it!

Today I got a real surprise. Got it up in the air on jackstands to check out
the underside. Despite the rust you see in the pics, there is no rust in
the floors or inner rocker panels. I knew the frontend had been re-built, but I thought he told me they mads the headers, Nope, the headers are good with no clearancing dents in them and fit real well. May have an issue with
removing the full size starter It has a driveshaft loop and adjustable
pinion snubber. Something is a little funkey with the rear axle housing-
springs, That will need to be looked into. but it does have the big finned
brakes on the back. I still have some things to do while it is up in the
air, than when weather permits, I will move Ms. Fury to another dry building and get back to Brutus( 64 Dodge.) I will have an update on it in a cuppla
weeks

List member Fred Pfaulp in AZ. fixed me up with most all of the Sport Fury
emblems .etc. that I didn't have---Thanks Fred!

Later.................MO
