RE: Our cars

My comments most surely apply to all of us here: I figure I've saved us thousands over the years by doing my own wrenching. Just this past Thanksgiving I replaced the starter and battery on our daughter's car when she was home on college break. Got lucky and it died in the driveway the day after she drove it home. It cost me about $200. in parts - would have been a pretty penny more if someone else had to do it up at college. I also wonder what the $7.50 intake gaskets I put on my wife's PT Cruiser Turbo would have cost if a garage did it instead of me in our garage. It took me all day, and it would have been several labor hours at a shop. I'm fortunate that my wife gives me space in my mid life crisis, but in my mind I do justify my Mopar madness expenses with all the money I've saved us over the years (also with do it yourself home repair/projects). I have to thank my dad who let me start my wrenching on his Ford station wagon in high school.
He wasn't a mechanic or mechanical, but he let me cut my teeth on his cars - to his ultimate benefit!
