Hmmmm.... Offset or not, the presence of a drivetrain would have put more pop ON the Malibu than it apparently received, and less, inversely, on the Bel Air. Does this list support file attachments? I've got photos of my Dad's 62 Dart 440 sedan after I plowed it into a 3-foot-thick and 3-foot-high driveway retaining wall at somewhere around 50 mph. I walked away, and my brother would have too with a simple lap belt, which the car did not have. Without one, his head popped the windshield and he spent a couple days in the hospital to have nasty cuts repaired. Orthopaedically, he was just fine. The front end was crushed, none of the doors would close any longer. But the passenger compartment was pretty much intact. Anyone want a photo, email me off list @ dart440@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Allen Sullivant Brentwood, Tn 62 Dart 440 Sedan, currently wore out and retired... Paul Lennemann wrote:
It's probably the same video that I've seen. As I recall it was not totally head to head but offset and more like headlight to headlight. I was surprised to see the damage to the Bel Air but when I look at my 63 Unibody car I can see how it would happen. I have a lot of faith in modern safety engineering.Paul L. On you tube there's a crash test between a 2009 malibu and a 59 bel air. If you watch it you can clearly see there's no power train in the old cheby. I pointed this out and about 90% of respondents made comments like "That's irrelevant, the bel air is a death trap" and "The engine would fly onto the drivers lap". I say these people are idiots at best. There's NO WAY that big old car is going to crumple the way it does with an intact drive train. For those of you who haven't seen this, please look at it. I would like as much feed back as possible. People, tell me if I'm crazy or not!!! --
