I remember someone reporting here that his Mopar was eccentric at high speed but that was fixed when he completely rebuilt the car's front suspension. A little suspension wear-wobble at 30 mph is not noticeable but turns into a lot of slop at 90 mph apparently.

The tech article with good color pictures of the procedure was in the Oct. 2010 issue of "Mopar Action" magazine, which is not online last I looked. The article pointed out that the mod worked with Saginaw pumps and does not "fix" a worn out steering box. But if your '62 to '65 Mopar had a good, non-worn-sloppy steering box it is worth the fix. Which was to remove the pump's pressure fitting and put in a thicker shim-washer, which effectively dropped the psi, giving a "firm-feel" while still having power steering. They did the work on their 1962 Plymouth and loved the result!

I need to dig around for the magazine as I put it in a "safe place" for future reference -- and it's TOO safe of a place....

Thanks,
Gary H.

I missed the PS box article as well, would appreciate more info. I have the
same issue as Kevin. I had a 64 Sport Fury new in 64 with PS and it NEVER
was squirrely. Sensitive, yes, but it did not dart around or feel goosey at
all. /Butch/Ferndale, WA

I did not see the article about the PS box feeling more like a manual.

Can you send me (us) the link?

I found that on a recent trip while cruising at 70 mph, my 64 440 felt
great. When the cop went by at 80 ish, and the traffic sped up, the car
got rather squirrelly when cruising between 80 and 90.

It was as if the cop was the "pace car".

The steering felt like the wind would blow the car off the road although
it was basically calm outside. This is the 2nd 62-65 b body car I've
had with power steering and both cases it is almost too sensitive.

Thanks,

K.

Unless you are making the '65 into a serious autocross machine, any sway
bars you put on will probably be okay in my 2 cents.

Sales volume usually helps drive the price down so I assume Summit and
Addco have the volume advantage, or source the iron with Chinese steel
perhaps?

Did you see the recent article about a simple and cheap modification to
the PS box so it "feels" more like a manual box?

Thanks,
Gary H.
