I have no experience with soda blasting and probably will not in the foreseeable future. Reason being that soda blasting requires its own specific or “converted” equipment and the soda material is not reclaimable as are many other blast medias. Soda blasting is not intended to replace media blasting; rather, it’s a very safe both personally and ecological way to remove (primarily) paint from thin sheet metal such as on car body surfaces without the fear of warping, and that’s about all soda is good for. With just a little care you can just as effectively remove paint (maybe even faster) from sheet metal by using an extra fine glass bead media. Part of the trick is to always attack the surface from an angle, never square to the surface, keep the steam moving and you will not get warping. Personally, I would not want to strip an entire car with either, but small parts or one panel, I’d use glass bead. I also much prefer the wide flexibility of different media types and grits for blasters. There is so much that can be done.
