Re: steering wheel

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that overview.
It does seem pretty straightforward. Patience is a clear key here. LOL.
Ive got three wheels including mine on the car so ive got plenty of practice surface!

thanks again,

That is to grind a ‘V’ notch in the major splits / cracks that have opened up enough that you can see the steel rod core and do the same to any lesser cracks only not as deep. Then roughen up the surface to both sides of the notch for good adhesion. Following the manufactures’ instructions for cleaning, preparation etc., mix a suitable portion of a two-part epoxy and begin to fill the groves. I would say a helpful hint would be to wear snug fitting rubber gloves and fill only 1/8” to ¼” at a time (or following the manufactures’ instructions) making sure to force or pack the epoxy tightly into the groove. Let this cure, roughen up the surface again then add another layer and so on, until the groove is nearly filled. For the final layer, I’d fill the smooth side first then put a piece of tape (masking/duct tape) over that side then finish the ribbed finger grip side. After curing, finish sand with varying degrees of paper from coarse to fine. I’d finish with an epoxy primer and paint with a clear coat. This repair should last…longer then most of us.
