Also I would check the Rad again.  Check it for hot and cold spots after you have been running it for awhile.  Just run your hand over the surface of the rad to see if the thing is hot or has cold spots in it. If you have cold spots then you have a plugged rad.     Did you check timing?

Couple questions..are you using a after market temp gauge or just the original dash gauge? I would verify the temp with a good gauge....I remember last summer we fixed my buddies Chevy overheating problems by trashing the cheap aftermarket gauge replacing with a autometer gauge.
Change the fan to a 6 blade...used in AC cars
I would not think u would need a shroud on a /6 with no air.
Radiators get price scary. You can almost get a custom built aluminum radiator for a copper core rebuild.
