RE: Gasoline

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of running 89 octane in small gas engines. As a matter of fact, every manual that I’ve read for such engines always recommended 87 octane and even most later model vehicles with your typical smaller V 8’s, sixes and fours all recommend 87 octane as (thanks to our wonderful government imposed emissions regulations) that is what they are designed to run on these days. With today’s fuels being what they are, I tend to believe that if the motor was designed to run on the lowest grade fuel then that’s what I’ll use. There was a time however; that I used to think it was good practice to run a tank full of premium through about every 3rd or 4th fill-up. But that was when the advertisements claimed to have cleaners in their fuels and some companies only added this to their premium grades.
I now believe running other than the recommend 87 octane is only a waste of money. So I use a fuel stabilizer in my powered lawn equipment and/or an injector cleaner in my cars as well.
