94.5 octane??? Wow how do you get that stuff? Most we can get here is 91, but California is so screwed up I'm surprised they still let us use gas. Most brand(if not all) gasoline come in two flavors- the 87 octane garbage and whatever premium is available in your area(here it's 94.5). They're mixed at the pump to provide the plus-level fuel. The guy told me that I needed to run at least 89 octane because the 87 would cause "scaling" in the carb over time (as little as 1 season) and cause problems. When I asked him if he meant some kind of deposit or mineral type residue he said yes. Supposedly the 89 octane won't do this. Has anyone heard of something like this? I had always heard that you run 87 octane unless your engine was setup to take advantage of the the extra octane (ie extra timing, etc.) and have never heard of scaling w/ lower octane fuels. Thoughts????
