If that's the case your probably just as well off going to a new carb. The Holley I got worked well right out of the box. I wasn't really having problems with my stock carb. I just wanted a little more performance. That's all I got, a little more. In hind sight, I'd have been just as well off staying stock. Cheaper too but I'm invested at this point.

My findings were the same!  A little better gas mileage if you keep your
foot out of it maybe.  That's why an aftermarket duel-plane may be the
better choice if looking for performance.

I got a manifold from a 383 from Jerry at J&J Cars and parts for the 361 in
my 65 Belvedere. It was several years ago and I paid around 50 bucks. Put a
Holley 600 on it and it works great. Truth be told though, I can't tell alot
of differance from the stock 2bbl.
