Jim, You say it's cold and I wonder if your not experiencing carburetor 
icing. This was a problem even when these cars were new especially in cold 
damp weather. The damp air rushing down the carb will actually form ice 
crystals in the carb and make it idle and run rough. Next time try 
restarting the car after sitting about 5 minutes and the engine has time to 
heat soak. If it clears up I'll bet that's your problem. You'll note in 
later years Mopar started using air cleaners that sucked in warm air from 
the exhaust manifolds during warm up to help with this problem. Another 
thing that will help is adding a can of dry gas to the tank. We get so used 
to today's cars with fuel injection we forget about all the winter problems 
of starting and warming up a car in the old days.

My carb is a 1965 Carter AFB 3858S.  Do you have spec info on that?

Again, I'm no expert.  But I'd have thought anything choke related
would clear up after the choke opens all the way.  The first time I
ran it, it cleared up after 10 minutes; I think long after the choke
would have opened full.  The second time after starting cold, it ran
rough for 5 minutes before I shut it down.

I'll try again tonight since it's a little warmer and I'll pay closer
attention to the choke.

Maybe it's too rich to start with?  Is there anything other than the
choke that could cause it to 'miss', and then get better as it gets
warmer?
