1965 Coronet 500 Trunk Emblem question

Not wanting to spend 250 for a new insert on my 65 Coronet 500's emblem I am wondering can you actually take the insert apart and repaint it?  I have the skills and an airbrush but I can't see where it comes apart. The center obviously comes out of the ring but it looks like it is sealed?   My emblem is in very good shape except the red has faded.  I figured it wouldn't take me much to respray and detail it.  Has anyone ever done one?  Thanks Dave
