Another alternative is to wrap/"upholster" the entire package tray with car audio speaker grill fabric. I did this way back in the 8-track aftermarket car stereo days. I wanted the 6x9s in the package tray but did not want the fact that I had a stereo in the car broadcasted by the visible speaker covers. That was in the days that there was no detachable face on the aftermarket stereo: the crooks snagged the whole stereo!

Seems I remember cutting the 6x9 holes in the package tray then wrapping the entire the package tray with car audio speaker grill fabric. The end result was the speakers were invisible from the casual passer-by and sounded great. I liked the look too.
