My first thought about the fluctuating fuel pressure is the quality of the fuel; ethanol base that "thins" as it gets hotter.

Last night at cruise night I ran across a young man with a very nice '66
Ford running a 429 dual-quad engine. He has the same fuel pump and the
same pressure regulator, Holley blue pump and Holley reg.. He is running
a return line to his tank which is the only difference. He is having the
exact same issue that I am right now. When cold the pressure is right on
6.5psi. As the engine warms the pressure begins to drop off and later
winds up about 3psi. If you reset it the pressure will be 7.5 or higher
when it's cold again. I tried another same model pressure regulator that
I have with the same results. This is the regulator that came with the
pump.

I'm thinking the spring or ?? in the PReg is changing with the temp from
the heat??? I will test this theory by installing a plastic milk bottle
around the PReg after the pressure drops and filling it with ice. If the
pressure rises I suspect the PReg is too hot and is the culprit. Maybe
there is a different style PReg or at least I can insulate it.

The young man's car is also exhibiting the occasional dying and hard
starting that I have experienced. He suspects the coil. Dejavue.

I was also told last night that a guy said the MSD and Accel coils must
be installed vertically or they will overheat. Mine is angled downward
about 30deg and does get hot. I can spin it vertical and see if that
helps too.
