Re: What CD player installs in a 65 Satellite

MP3 is a lossy compression algorithm, and you do lose quality. Now at 320 kbps, the highest bitrate capable for MP3, you probably can't hear the difference. In fact, you probably won't notice much of the loss at 192 kbps, but try encoding something at 64 or 32 kbps... Files encoded with higher bitrates take more space, so you have to find a compromise there, but you can still fit a LOT of music on one CD at 320 kbps. As to the audio aficionados (audiophiles, or as the realists call them "audiophools"), some of them know what they're talking about, but most of them are lemmings following the rest of the pack off the cliff. Start shopping the internet for high end audio and you'll find all kinds of snake oil salesmen selling special cables and rocks and mojo in a can to the audiophools. As for your vinyl collection, they do make optical record players which can even play records that are broken, as the disc doesn't move. The whole concept sounded really cool to me until I heard the price. You can buy a lifetime supply of styli for what one of those runs you. Gary's got it right though. If your stereo doesn't sound that great, buy a new cam.

no real loss between CD and MP3 both are digital formats..so converting
digital data to digital data there won't be a noticeable loss...

convert analog vinyl to digital is another story.. audio affectionatos
will tell you it can't be done.. I've not done it myself but one of my
friends said he can't tell that he's loss anything, but the "pops" and
"crackle" (a good converter can suppress those)

Isn't the MP3 format a "compressed" audio source which has a measurable
fidelity quality loss when music is transferred from CD/vinyl to MP3
format?

I am sure it really doesnt' matter much in our '62-'65 Hot Rods where
audio
reproduction is overshadowed by the RPM music of cam/headers/and
exhaust...
