I think you covered everything. Maybe someone with experience with the 489 will post a solution. It makes it sound like it is a thrust block / axle length problem and yours are too long for the 3rd member. I don't have enough experience to know what to do however I would be concerned about adding shims to get clearance. If the axle is too long would it result in too much bearing clearance?
