${top_text_ad} Brian, Harbor Freight sells one that I used recently...it works great! http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=99849 The only thick is...don't buzz it down to tight w/ your impact...it WILL break in half!!! It's Chinese steel but it does the trick. 1. Soak the balljoint / spindle w/ a good penetrant - use PB Blaster, etc. WD-40 doesn't cut it. 2. Slip this tool in so the single 'thumb' is on the end of the ball joint stud and the 'fingers' are on top of the spindle. 3. Give it a few cranks to put some decent pressure on it. 4. Smack the crap out of the spindle a few times to shock it loose. 5. Walk away, let it sit for a few mins w/ pressure on it, spray it some more, smack it some more, and it will eventually come loose. On my one lower ball joint in my Coronet, I set the tool, smacked it, got up and walked away. Was milling around my shop for a few mins and then "BANG"...it's free. -- Bill M 65 Coronet 500 'vert http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/mmo62008.html On Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 4:27 PM, Brian Safford <hzf9vv@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > I've been unable to break loose the 4 ball joints on my steering cross > bar ( or whatever it's called ) - I've tried a couple of pullers I > have but they just don't fit well enough to do the job. > > Is there a special puller/tool for these things? > > I need to drop the oil pan to see if my oil pickup is once again > filled with black silicone goo - this from a few years ago when during > the Power Tour my son and I broke 3 distributor shafts due to the lame > brain mechanic who sealed up my oil pan with half a tube of the stuff > :-( > > Oh, and by the way ... whilst under the car today I noticed my power > steering pump is leaking through where the front cover is maybe > pressed into the case?
