I think your choke is staying open all the time.
I've had just the opposite problems with the Stromberg on my 64 poly the
end
of last summer, I had to open it to start it.
I hung a small pair of needle nose vice grips on the choke linkage to
weight
it down to hold it open or she smokes like crazy and bogs when cold.
I haven't taken her out of storage yet to see what the problem is or if it
still is a problem. yet.
I wish there was a carburetor 101 course online I could take.

BTW the car does idle correctly.. when first started a fast idle, and
after about five minutes or when the temp gauge is a quarter up, I tap
on the gas and the idle slows
