Rich Kinsley '64 Dodge Polara 4dr 318poly w/goodies I got the '85 Chrysler Fifth Avenue alternator and installed it today. It's pretty snug but it works. There was a tag saying max amps 91. That should be very sufficient for me! The pulley is almost 1/4" smaller in diameter. I couldn't use a bigger pulley either as it physically touches the square corner of the head and won't allow it to go inward any further. I'm thinking of grinding a bit off the corner of the head and maybe some on the alternator too if there's enough meat in that area. That'll give me some more room to move it for proper tension. I had to pry the old belt on as it was. It's the dual field type so I grounded the fld closest to the ground on the alt and used the other fld connection. As I reacall it didn't matter which fld was grounded but one needed to be. Unless the extra rpm's on the alternator is a problem I'll leave the smaller pulley on it. I don't go over 6200rpms. At least not on purpose. Thanks for the tip about this alternator. ---- Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
