....if its not stuck in the closed position. My 273 had just this problem. Ran much better after I pried it open.

Mike that is the heat riser ,,,,,,,if you are not sure about it you might be
better off going to a muffler shop and having them put a system on, sure
would hate it if the system leaked and someone got hurt. and besides exhaust
work takes special tools
