Re: 400 Heads

Herb,

All you need is a good valve job and please have them surfaced for piece of mind and then bolt them on, the little loss in compression won't make a difference in your application. Good Luck!,

The car is a stone cold stock driver. Looked, they are 452 heads and was
told they had a lot of mileage on them. Just looking to save $ on upgrading
the 361 heads to todays standards.

I know, but probably not enough to be real noticable, unless I missed
something I believe this is pretty much a stock driver. The good news is
detonation will become less of an issue also.

I did not get in on the beginning of this,,,,,but am thinking he is going
from closed heads to open heads and there will be drastic CR change

Herb,

Look at the part number on the heads, located either between the rocker
pads
or underneath on the head gasket side, the last three numbers you are
looking for are 452 or 346. If you have either set then go ahead and put
them on assuming they are in good condition, you will not run into any
issues.

Recently their was a discussions about the merits of the 400 heads. The
361
in my Sport Fury is in need of a valve job. As opposed to going
through
those heads and having the seats replaced and all the other machine work
needed for todays gas, would I be better off using a set of 400 heads
that
were just given to me saving $ in machine work? Or would I run into
compression or valve clearance problems?
