Re: Rear Drums/Hubs

With the wheel on the drum won't come off. The rear drums are the front drums with the hub added.

Isn't the end play part related to the shims used? I get confused about adjusting the tapered end play so maybe some will chime in and explain it.
(BTW, anyone reproducing those shims yet?)

Thanks,
Gary H.

>I just pulled my first set of rear tapered axle drums.  It wasn't as bad as it sounded like it was going to be.  I pulled the driver's side first and got what I expected.  When I pulled the passenger side, the drum came off without the hub.  At first I thought it was different from the other side, but it looks like they're the same - only the flange with the studs came apart from the drum and stayed with the hub on the axle.  How could this happen, you ask?  I used a gear puller that grabbed behind the edges of the drums - not the proper universal puller that pulls on the studs (that I don't have).  There doesn't appear to be any damage, but the stud hole face of the drum is a little bit bent.  I don't know if that was from me or some other previous operation.  It doesn't look serious to me - nothing looks broken.  I don't even know how those parts stay together - there are no welds or anything that indicates they shouldn't come apart.  Do
