Fresh out of "mechanic school" one of my first jobs at the Dodge Dealer in 1975 was a 70 Coronet with melted wires... a seasoned mechanic showed me the "fix"... he cut the wires on both sides of the disconnect, ran a 1/4" drill through the two cavities in the bulkhead, pulled the wire from under the dash out into the engine compartment and soldered the wires together. Instead get a volt meter. Also the bulkhead connectors typically meltdown so just run the wire straight through to improve that area.
