6 Reasons not to use a remote starter... 1. Big dent behind wheel well - RF Fender 2. Smaller dent in front of the wheel well - RF fender 3. Smashed long fender spear - RF fender 4. Scraped short fender spear - RF fender 5. Trashed RF wheel well chrome 6. RF wheel pointing ~15 degrees to the left when the LF wheel is straight. Needless to say I'm really beating myself up on this. I'm working yesterday afternoon on trying to tune this freshly rebuilt pain in the ass Carter AVS I recently bought. I had been starting and stopping it trying to get the high idle set @ a reasonable RPM. I'm not sure if I had the trans barely in neutral, or not quite in park, or it jumped itself, or what...I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm standing next to the LF fender, I hit the starter button, and for once it actually fired right up, but the went into reverse, and started backing out of the garage. Unfortunately the wheel must have been turned slightly to the left because it nailed the RF fender on the garage door frame...bending the shit out of the garage door track and also ripping the weather seal flashing off the door. The wheel was turned enough that it caught on the frame and yanked it out of whack...I'm still not sure what's bent. As soon as I saw it move, I jumped in it as fast as I could to jam on the brake, but it was too late...damage done. It hit just behind the wheel well, hit and yanked the tire, and bounced back into the fender in front of the wheel before I got it stopped. No damage to the door, hood, or grille. It looks like the fender salvageable, but the long fender spear is not (unless it's by a REALLY good pro). The RF wheel well chrome may be beyond repair by anyone. Paint is both scraped and cracked off in places. The remote starter went in the trash and I will never one again. I guess it's good that it didn't (1). jump into drive, run into my bench & toolbox, and trash the grille, both fenders, the hood, and possibly me, or (2). back out with the wheel turned to the right, back into my trailer and trash the RR qtr, taillight, and rally $$ trunk trim. So at the very least I need RF wheel well chrome and a long 500 fender spear. Not sure about the fender or the short fender spear. Are the left and right long spears interchangeable? If anyone can be of assistance with parts, I would greatly appreciate it. The driving season is here and I gotta get this thing done. I'm thinking that since something is f'd up in the front end now, this would be a good time to put on my disc brake setup. -- Bill M 65 Coronet 500 'vert http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/mmo62008.html
