Lugnut problem

I went to have new tires put on my '64 Dodge Polara 500 today, and the left rear had one lugnut that was frozen on the stud and the stud would just spin when you tried to remove it so I couldn't get the left rear wheel off. I remember some horror stories recently about using a fire wrench and driving in figure 8's to get something off, and wanted to see if this stud and frozen nut are like that. Can I just remove the rear drum, wheel and all, and somehow knock out the old stud with the frozen nut and replace with a new one? If so, where would I find a new lugnut stud for that? Thanks for any help.
