The two I tried were Melling and Sealed power from local parts stores. I figured it out though...the keyway in the factory gear was cut a little deeper and the key in the crank was shifted. It just happened that it was binging right at the step in the crank so it looked like it was the crank, not the key. The cam is out & the lifters are on their way to VTI tomorrow. A stock 340 set up should fit no trouble. It fits early hemis, polys (even slant sixes but dont ell nbody)Or a truckset as well. A lot f indusrial or truck engines were roller. The new set's crank gear stops dead where the crank steps up in diameter. I'm about ready to put it back together as-is...sloppy single chain and all. This is beyond ridiculous. I have a 66 318 Poly on the floor of my garage that I had Gary re-grind the cam out of, and I have a 65? (stamped numbers ground off) in my car w/ casting number 2468230. The timing chain gears I bought fit the cam & crank from the 66. They will not go in the 65? motor. The cam gear stops before the front face is flush w/ the cam. The crank gear goes over the step-up on the crank to about the half way point of the gear and stops. The above statements would tell me that the crank on the 65? is a larger diameter and that the crank gear from it would fit on the 66 motor...right? Wrong! It won't!!! What the &%#@ is going on? Is this some kind of truck or marine motor? I really want to get this figured out so I can get this thing back together!
