Greetings,
I just did this last year to my 65 Satellite. It had a cable shift 727 with
the shifter on the floor. I bought everything I needed from Imperial
Services. They had a nifty conversion kit for the shifter so that I could
retain the original shifter assembly. You do have to put a lighter spring in
the detent of the valve body of the replacement transmission as the shift
lever is a lot shorter throw than the original. I also got the rear mount
and speedometer cable from them. Everything worked and fit like it was
supposed to. I ended up using a 727 out of a 1970 Imperial. I used the
neutral safety switch that was with the 70 transmission, and just used the
center terminal as the outer two are for the back up lights. Beings the 65
has the rear slip yoke the driveshaft fit fine. I used the detent cable
set-up that Bouchillon (sp) Performance sells and that also works great as I
have a Weiland intake and Holley carb on 440. If you need any other info,
feel free to e-mail or call me (507)525-3591.

Subject: speedometer cables
I'm looking to install a later model trans into a 65 Belvedere. Aside from
the mount issues, will the 65 speedo cable and pinion crossover to the
later trans, or do I have to use the later style parts?
Thanks
