in the Mopar Performance Parts "Small Block 'A' Engines" book on pg. 170 in the camshaft and valve gear section it says "All 273s from 1964-67 had mechanical lifters, while later 273s (1968-69) and 318s (1967-91) used hydraulic lifters." i hope this helps.
