RE: Converting manual to power steering...what's involved



Thanks for all the responses. I think the pitman arm is the piece I'm
concerned about. But, after driving the car last night, I'm not all that
convinced I need to change over to power steering. It actually drives pretty
darned good as is. My other 64 SF has it and I really like it, but this

Hi Butch,
I'm not sure that I would change.  I had a 63 Belvedere with manual steering
and it was esy to drive in town.  The steering wheels are the same size and
plenty big for manual steering.

I had a 63 Fury with power steering and my 64 Ddodge 440 has power steering
and although easier, I doubt I would bother switching either way.

If you switch you may also need a pitman arm for the power steering box
because I doubt it is the same as the manual box.  Otherwise, pump, bracket,
box, shorter column and hoses are all you need.

Call me sometime if you want to chat about this and you can tell me about
your "new "car.
