Was called out of town do to a death in the family, so I am way late with a suggestion. But this might help someone else in the future. NAPA and several other auto parts stores sell a gas tank sealer that works very well or at least it has for me. It comes in gallons only I believe. You have to drop the tank and remove sender. If it has pinholes in it just wire brush over them and apply duct tape over small holes & solder large holes with a soldering iron & copper over cuts and even larger holes. Then tape over vents, filler neck and pore the sealer in the tank and tape the sender hole. Now rotate the tank over & over coating the compleat inside of the tank. Pull off the tape from the filler and pour the excess back into the can then remove tape from vents & sender hole, let dry and you have a clean plastic coated tank. As far as soldering the big holes I have been told just tape every thing and wait till the coating dry's to remove tape from the holes or just leave the tape on, I just feel safer soldering the big ones my self. The great part this stuff is it sticks to and covers up rust and I have used a tank I repaired this way for several years in a Barracuda I owned with no problems. It also is a lot cheaper than a new tank if your working on a limited budget. Its about 3/4 of the way up, so when I drove it before dropping it off for an extended stay at the body shop, I could only fill it about half way. Its coming around the time for it to come out of the body shop now, and I need to fix the tank. So my questions are: 1) if you had this problem, did you fix or replace? 2) where can I find replacement fuel tanks without foraging through junk yards.
