Re: A engine versus LA engine

The oil pump & timing gear set is the same application for the 62-66 Poly 318 as the later 318/340 LA engines. The early 277-318 Polys (1956-61) use a different oil pump but even these early engines use the same timing gear set (chain & gears).

See http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/poly318_1.html for interchange.

The A 318 engine is noticeably wider than the LA version.

-----Original Message-----
Is there any difference between the oil pump and timing gears and chain
for a 1964 318 'A' engine versus a 318 'LA' engine? Just wanted to know
before the mechanic that is going thru my engine replaces it with maybe
the wrong one.
Also are there any other noticeable differences between the 2 engines
besides the valve covers?
Thanks in advance
