sloppy box

hi, i recently rebuilt my front end but wasn't able to afford to get the steering box rebuilt[ starts at $500 upwards] someone mentioned that by adjusting the screw on top of the box you can remove some of the slop. if so is it as simple as loosening nut tightening screw in & so on? hoping this may work until i can get money to rebuild box. thanks, richard [oz]
