Bob, Jeff, and Brian, I remember that there's something strange (like one year only) about the 64 rear end. A friend of mine had a problem finding the right size axle for his 64 Belvedere race car awhile back. I read somewhere that Mopar widened the B body rear end in 64 so that the rear track matched the front. I just took a look at the Auto Hobby Digest article on 8 3/4 rear ends and according to their measurements the 64 B body rear is about 2" wider than the 62-63 B body rear and about 1" wider than the 65-70 B body rear. Since you all have 64's I guess that explains it.

I agree with Bob. I put in a 489 Sure Grip rear end from a '70 Road Runner, and it was 1" narrower than my original '64 rear end. I did the swap so that I could remove the air shocks that I had to use to keep the '64 rear end higher to gain more tire clearance. Now I can run standard shocks and still have plenty of tire clearance...Brian Bob Kinker wrote:This is not true in all cases. I put a 67 rear in my 64 Plymouth, and the rear is almost 1" narrower on each side. Spring perches were in the right place. I gained lots of room! For example, I put a 1968 rear into my 1964 Plymouth, and it is 3/4" wider on each side. There is not a lot of room on the outside wheel well as it is. This is a very popular swap. Sean
