I'd check the timing first, then check the radiator cap for proper pressure.Then move on to the more x-pensive stuff. Had a '62 chebbie ( I know, I know ) many, many, many moons ago that did the same thing. After stopping at a gas station a few days in a row the old boy pumping the gas handed me a new radiator cap and said " Here, try this kid ". Never had the problem again, and he never charged me for the cap!!! Next time I stopped in for gas, I told him it worked great and tried to pay him again but he said not to worry about it. Nice old guy, huh.

I agree Earl that his fuel is disappearing out of the carb but...... This seems to be a common problem with today's fuels that are all formulated for new cars with closed fuel injected systems. I know a guy who's business is rebuilding starters, generators and alternators, been doing it for years. He told me in the old days he'd soak parts in a coffee can of gas to clean them up. I am going to suspect a fuel boiling issue first, and or a weak fuel pump, or both. Here is a good test to start running down the problem. Get it hot, let it sit, pump the accelerator twice try to start it. If it does not start asap, stop, pour some fuel down the carb, just a little bit, and try it again. If it wants to start, you have a fuel issue. Then it will be time to decide if the carb is boiling the fuel out, or the pump is boiling the fuel out, or not picking it up. Earl Folks, Got a question regarding my Dart being difficult to start when it is hot. When it is cold it starts right up no problems. When it is hot, if it isonly off a real short time it will start right up, but if it sits a while, then it just wants to crank and crank and crank, and will finally fire up. Doesn't smell like it floods, just keeps cranking. Any advise on what the issue may be and how to correct it?
