plywood

 Acually plywood works very well. I made a prototype complete 2x4 intake top for a Wiend SS manifold. Pics are on my old Big D Symaptico website. I think it is even ony new one under "projects then---"
I made it from regular sheathing plywood (Cheapest grade) and sealed it with Garage floor paint which is oil and fuel proof . Ran it for over a year till i was happy with it and then had an aluminum one cast from it using it as a plug.  There was no difference in perfomance of the two , absolutely zero difference and I still have it in the basement (aka the Archives) I was looking at it the other day and there were no ill effects even after a years use . Also the good wooden ones that are sold are also made from Plywood  as was by the way the very first max Wedge Cross Ram ever built.
