I've disassembled my 413 and am preparing to take it to Muscle Motors in Lansing to have them clean, Magnaflux and sonic check the block and heads. Assuming the block checks out, here's my preliminary plan for the machine work I'll ask them to price: Bore the block .030 over using a deck plate Zero deck the block Line hone the mains Bushing the lifter bores Enlarge the oil pickup to 1/2" Ream the main bearing oil passageways to 17/64" Am I missing anything obvious? As far as the heads go, if my existing heads are okay I will probably just go with those for now due to budgetary constraints. All the stuff I've read thus far suggests that you shouldn't scrimp on the short block. I'm pretty sure I will need to get custom pistons made - I want lightweight pistons/rods but I haven't found any source for 413 .030 pistons except for the stock cast ones. I'm trying to not get too excited about this until I'm sure the block is sound and can take the .030 overbore. If it can take enough to get into the 426 size pistons, should I consider that option? Thanks again for everyone's help and encouragement!
